Guide for Editors

The Bangladesh Journal of Cardiovascular Intervention (BJCI) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of editorial integrity, transparency, and scientific excellence. Editors are responsible for ensuring a fair, unbiased, and efficient editorial process while safeguarding the quality and credibility of published research.

Editorial Responsibilities

Editors are responsible for managing the peer-review process and making publication decisions based solely on the scientific merit, originality, and relevance of submitted manuscripts.

Editors should:

  • Evaluate manuscripts fairly and objectively.
  • Ensure timely processing of submissions.
  • Select qualified and independent reviewers.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts throughout the review process.
  • Make editorial decisions based on reviewers' recommendations, editorial judgment, and the journal's scope.
  • Promote ethical publishing practices and scientific integrity.

Editorial Decision-Making

Editorial decisions should be based on:

  • Scientific quality and originality
  • Clinical significance and relevance
  • Methodological soundness
  • Ethical compliance
  • Clarity of presentation
  • Reviewers' comments and recommendations

Possible editorial decisions include:

  • Accept
  • Minor Revision
  • Major Revision
  • Reject

The Editor-in-Chief has the final authority on all publication decisions.

Confidentiality

Editors must:

  • Treat all submitted manuscripts as confidential documents.
  • Not disclose manuscript information to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, editorial staff, and publisher when appropriate.
  • Not use unpublished information for personal research or professional advantage.
  • Protect the confidentiality of reviewers in accordance with the journal's single-blind peer-review policy.

Fairness and Impartiality

Editors should evaluate manuscripts without discrimination based on:

  • Nationality
  • Gender
  • Race or ethnicity
  • Religion
  • Institutional affiliation
  • Political beliefs

Editorial decisions must be based solely on the scientific merit, originality, quality, and relevance of the manuscript to the scope of BJCI.

Conflict of Interest

Editors should avoid handling manuscripts in which they have any financial, personal, academic, or professional conflict of interest.

If a conflict exists, the manuscript must be reassigned to another qualified editor to ensure an impartial editorial process.

Ethical Oversight

Editors are responsible for ensuring that all published research complies with internationally accepted ethical standards.

Editors should verify that manuscripts include:

  • Approval from an Institutional Review Board (IRB) or Ethics Committee, where applicable.
  • Informed consent from participants.
  • Clinical trial registration when required.
  • Appropriate animal ethics approval for animal studies.
  • Compliance with patient privacy and confidentiality requirements.

Any suspected cases of plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated or falsified data, image manipulation, unethical research practices, or authorship disputes should be investigated in accordance with the journal's ethical policies and internationally recognized publication ethics guidelines.

Peer Review Management

Editors should:

  • Select reviewers with appropriate expertise.
  • Ensure reviewers have no conflicts of interest.
  • Monitor the quality and timeliness of peer reviews.
  • Request additional reviews when necessary.
  • Ensure reviewer comments remain objective, constructive, and professional.

Communication with Authors

Editors should communicate with authors in a professional, respectful, and timely manner.

Editors are expected to:

  • Communicate reviewer comments objectively.
  • Request revisions where necessary.
  • Explain editorial decisions when appropriate.
  • Minimize unnecessary delays during the editorial process.

Corrections and Retractions

Editors are responsible for maintaining the integrity of the published scholarly record.

When necessary, the journal may publish:

  • Corrections (Errata)
  • Corrigenda
  • Expressions of Concern
  • Retractions

Such actions will be taken whenever significant errors or ethical concerns are identified after publication.

Editorial Independence

Editors must exercise independent editorial judgment without influence from authors, institutions, sponsors, advertisers, funding agencies, or commercial interests.

Editorial decisions should remain free from external pressure and be based solely on academic merit and scientific quality.

Continuous Improvement

Editors are encouraged to:

  • Stay informed about developments in scholarly publishing.
  • Promote research integrity and transparency.
  • Encourage high-quality submissions.
  • Support reviewer development.
