Authorship and Contributorship

The Bangladesh Journal of Cardiovascular Intervention (BJCI) is committed to promoting transparency, accountability, and integrity in scholarly publishing. Authorship should accurately reflect individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the research and manuscript. All authors are expected to adhere to the authorship criteria established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the ethical principles endorsed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Authorship Criteria

BJCI follows the ICMJE Recommendations, which state that authorship should be based on all of the following four criteria:

  1. Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work, or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data.
  2. Drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.
  3. Final approval of the version to be published.
  4. Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work and to ensure that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Individuals who meet all four criteria should be listed as authors.

Contributorship

Individuals who contributed to the work but do not meet the criteria for authorship should not be listed as authors. Such contributions may be acknowledged in the Acknowledgements section with their permission.

Examples include:

  • Technical or laboratory assistance
  • Data collection under supervision
  • Administrative or logistical support
  • Language editing or proofreading
  • General supervision
  • Funding acquisition without substantial intellectual contribution

Authors are encouraged to clearly describe each author's contribution at the time of submission.

Corresponding Author Responsibilities

The corresponding author is responsible for:

  • Ensuring that all listed authors meet the journal's authorship criteria.
  • Obtaining approval of the final manuscript from all co-authors.
  • Confirming that all authors agree to the manuscript's submission and publication.
  • Serving as the primary contact with the journal during submission, peer review, and publication.
  • Ensuring that all required ethical approvals and disclosures are accurately reported.

Changes to Authorship

Requests to add, remove, or rearrange authors after manuscript submission must be submitted to the Editorial Office with:

  • A written explanation for the requested change.
  • Written consent from all authors, including any author being added or removed.

The journal will consider such requests in accordance with COPE guidance. Authorship changes after acceptance will only be permitted under exceptional circumstances.

Authorship Misconduct

BJCI does not tolerate unethical authorship practices, including:

  • Guest or honorary authorship
  • Gift authorship
  • Ghost authorship
  • Omission of eligible authors
  • Misrepresentation of author contributions

Suspected authorship misconduct will be investigated following the journal's publication ethics policies and COPE guidelines. Where appropriate, the journal may request clarification, reject the manuscript, publish a correction, or retract the article.

Author Contribution Statement

Authors are encouraged to include an Author Contribution Statement describing each author's specific role in the research and manuscript preparation. This promotes transparency and accountability throughout the publication process.

Examples of contributions may include:

  • Conceptualization
  • Methodology
  • Data collection
  • Formal analysis
  • Investigation
  • Writing – original draft
  • Writing – review and editing
  • Supervision
  • Project administration

Accountability

All authors share responsibility for the integrity, accuracy, and reliability of the published work. Each author should be able to identify their individual contribution and should have confidence in the integrity of the contributions made by their co-authors.

Commitment to Responsible Authorship

The Bangladesh Journal of Cardiovascular Intervention (BJCI) expects all authors to uphold the highest standards of honesty, transparency, and accountability in assigning authorship and reporting contributions. Adherence to this policy helps ensure fairness, maintain public trust in scientific research, and preserve the integrity of the scholarly record in accordance with COPE and ICMJE recommendations.
